COMBF CREW PAGE

Want to have an up close, hands on experience with a hot air balloon? Our festival is always looking for volunteers to serve on a balloon crew team or to help out with other pieces of our festival. Our balloon flights take place twice daily during the festival and crew are expected to be on the field and ready by 5:15am for morning flights and 5pm for evening flights. Being a crew member can also be physically demanding, and we have instituted a formal list of guidelines for who is eligible to serve as a crew member. A crew person must:

  • Be able to work and walk under own power (no walker/or cane, oxygen tank etc)

  • Be able to navigate rough terrain

  • Be at least 4ft tall

  • Be able to lift/carry 35 lbs

  • Be able to lift arms over head and have full range of motion of arms and legs

  • Be able to take verbal instruction in a loud environment

Additionally, we require that crew members:

  • Not bring children or guests with them that have not been cleared by festival committee

  • Not bring pets onto any launch field

  • Wear appropriate clothing

    • NO strings on your clothing

    • NO slippers/sandals/open toed shoes

    • NO hanging jewelry

    • All long hair must be tied back and secure

  • Remember that you are a COMBF volunteer - not a volunteer of a specific pilot.

  • Remember that while some pilots will try to fly their crew members, crew are not entitled to a free flight in exchange for your volunteerism. Flights are provided at the discretion and generosity of the individual pilots, based on their flight schedule given to them by the COMBF.

  • PLEASE NOTE: Preference is given to local crew members who have crewed previously and/or have availability for all festival flights.

Priority is given to returning crew members who are available for all 6 festival flights. New volunteers and those with limited available will be placed as needed.
